The maximum number of questions a test-taker can get wrong on the driver's permit test in New York is six. The test consists of 20 questions, 14 of which must be answered correctly.
There is no limit to the number of times the test can be taken. The test is based on the New York Driver's Manual, which covers traffic laws, safe driving and road signs. However, in New York, if an applicant has completed a Driver's Education course, there is no requirement to take the written test. Taking a Driver's Education course is the best option if an applicant has any issues with reading, writing or taking tests.
