How many rings does Saturn have?

Saturn is encircled by four main rings and three fainter rings. They are divided, and the rings are made up of thousands of smaller rings.

Saturn's rings are made of ice and rock, and they vary in size. Galileo was the first to spot the rings through a telescope in 1610. Each of Saturn's rings is named for a letter of the alphabet. The rings circle around Saturn at high speeds. They are thousands of miles wide, but only 30 to 300 feet thick. The small rings making up the larger ones are referred to as ringlets. More ringlets are continuously being discovered.
