How many Spongebob Squarepants movies are there?

As of 2015, there are two SpongeBob SquarePants movies. The first, "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie," was released in 2004, and the second, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," is the 2015 sequel.

"The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" was released in 2004, five years after the television series premiered on Nickelodeon. The plot of the movie follows the title character and his best friend, Patrick, as they attempt to recover King Neptune's crown from the villainous Plankton. "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" follows a pirate named Burger-Beard, who is trying to steal the Krabby Patty formula, and SpongeBob and friends' attempts to stop him. A third film is currently in development as of 2015.
