Central Park in New York City is 1.317 square miles in area. It is 2.5 miles long, stretching from 59th Street to 110th Street, and is 0.5 miles wide, between Fifth Avenue and Central Park West.

Central Park opened in 1857 with 1.215 square miles of land. It was expanded to its current size in 1873.

It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962 and has its own police precinct. It is managed by the Central Park Conservancy, a private, not-for-profit organization under contract with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Central Park receives approximately 42 million visitors every year.
