All states except Nebraska have bicameral legislatures. While bicameral state legislatures have two bodies that are separate and both need to approve bills, Nebraska's unicameral legislature has just has one chamber, which reduces costs and improves efficiency with lawmaking, reports the Nebraska Legislature.
For the other 49 states with bicameral legislatures, the naming of the two chambers differ. Each state has a small chamber, commonly known as an upper house or Senate, and a larger chamber, which may be known as the Assembly, House of Representatives or Senate. Both of these chambers have their own representatives and bills to review, though they can cooperate to reach approval.
