According to Civil Engineering Careers, a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering is the standard educational investment required to become a civil engineer.
There are also other educational opportunities. A two-year associate degree in civil engineering technology allows a student to become an engineer assistant. This degree, combined with work experience, sets a solid foundation for the student to return to complete a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
A six-year Master of Science degree in civil engineering can be achieved while in school or as a continuing education follow-up to the bachelor's degree. An engineer with this degree often becomes a collegiate professor.
