What does intersection mean in math?

An intersection in mathematics usually refers to the point where two lines cross each other on a plot, but can also refer to shared numbers in data sets. It is possible for more than two lines to meet at an intersection, and it is also possible for a line to have more than one distinct intersection.

The term intersection is defined by some sort of common point or space between two or more entities. An intersection between two data sets is a set of all the common numbers. For example, the intersection of the sets {3,4,5} and {4,5,6} is {4,5}, since 4 and 5 are in both sets.
