The maximum weight that is allowed to be shipped in a 20-foot container is a gross weight of 24,000 kilograms. This figure includes the weight of the container, which is generally between 2,210 and 2,340 kilograms.
According to GBS Freight Services, a 20-foot container can carry a gross weight of 24,000 kilograms. After deducting the weight of the container itself, this equates to a maximum weight of approximately 21,710 kilograms that can be shipped within the container. Twenty-foot containers do vary slightly in size, however, which means that some 20-foot containers are only able to carry 18,015 kilograms of goods.
