What is a "median" in geometry?

A median is a line segment that joins any vertex of a triangle to the midpoint of the opposite side of the triangle. A triangle has three sides and three vertices. Hence, it has three medians. A median divides a triangle into two equal halves of equal area.

The medians of a triangle intersect in a single point called the centroid of the triangle. The angles of the triangle have nothing to do with the medians and the centroid. The centroid always lies in the interior of the triangle. Every triangle has only one centroid. It is also the center of gravity for the triangle.
