What medications are used for treating trigger finger?

Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen may ease the pain of a trigger finger condition, while more serious or persistent cases may require the injection of a steroid medication, according to Mayo Clinic. Other options for severe afflictions include percutaneous release and surgery.
For milder cases of trigger finger, doctors may recommend that the patient rest the affected finger. This can be achieved by wearing a splint or avoiding activities that can disturb the finger, says Mayo Clinic. The doctor may also suggest applying ice to the hand or soaking it in warm water. Doctors may also encourage gentle stretching exercises to assist the finger's range of motion.
