Trigger finger is more likely to occur in people who have diabetes, but it is not clear whether it is a direct cause of the condition. Inflammation of the sheath surrounding the tendon in the affected finger causes trigger finger, as stated by Mayo Clinic.
Trigger finger affects between 10 and 20 percent of diabetics, according to the American Diabetes Association. In comparison, it affects 2 to 3 percent of the general population. Being diabetic increases the likelihood of developing trigger finger as it also increases the risk of developing other joint issues, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, particularly in those with Type 1 diabetes.
