Who is Mel Blount?

Mel Blount is a former NFL football star who played as cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers between 1970 and 1983. Blount was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989 and is widely considered to be one of the best cornerbacks in NFL history.

Mel Blount's first season as a starter was in 1972 for the Pittsburgh Steelers secondary beginning lineup. During the 1972 regular season, Blount did not concede a single touchdown from his position at right cornerback. In 1975, the Associated Press named Blount the most valuable defensive player in the NFL. Before being chosen as a third-round draft pick in 1970, Blount played for Southern University.
