What is a Merino guinea pig?

Merinos are a very rare breed of guinea pig with soft, curly coats that come in any variety of colors, and they display large crests on their heads. Although they have a great temperament, they're very high maintenance. Online Guinea Pig Care doesn't recommend them as a first guinea pig.

Merino guinea pigs are typically sold by breeders and are usually not found in pet stores.
