What is a merle Pomeranian?

A merle Pomeranian is a Pomeranian with a dark base coat with patches of lighter colored fur. They can have dark, blue or odd colored eyes.

For a merle coloring, at least one of the puppy's parents must be a merle. When two merles are bred together, half of the litter will be merle, one-fourth of the litter will be white, and the remaining will be black. The white puppies could be born deaf, blind or both. Responsible breeders won't breed two merles together.

Merle Pomeranians are similar to parti Pomeranians because they both have coats of two or more colors. A merle will have a base color of red, black, blue or brown, while a parti will have lighter colors for the base coat.
