Meryl Streep's ethnic background is Swiss, Irish, English and German. Her father's side of the family immigrated to America from Loffenau, Germany, and Giswil, Switzerland. In addition to being from Ireland, England and Germany, her mother's side of the family has roots in Pennsylvania dating back to the 1600s.

Meryl Streep was born on June 22, 1949, in Summit, New Jersey. She is a film, television and stage actress. As of November 2015, Streep has been nominated for 19 Academy Awards and 28 Golden Globe awards. Of those nominations, she has won three Academy Awards and eight Golden Globes. Streep has been married to Don Gummer, a sculptor, since 1978. They have four adult children.
