One method to kill bamboo includes digging out the rootstocks with all pieces of the roots being removed or the bamboo will regrow, notes the Aggie Horticulture website. Some bamboos are aggressive growers and will spread to areas not wanted. Cutting bamboo close to the ground and continuously cutting the regrowth will eventually kill the plant.

Another method to kill bamboo includes using the chemical cacodylic acid, which should be used when stocks reach 20 to 24 inches in height. The cacodylic acid will kill the foliage which it touches and when used is similar to cutting the shoots. Chemical sprays that have dalapon or glyphosate can be repeatedly sprayed on leaves to kill bamboo as well.
