Miami is located along the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida. Miami is situated on a wide plain lying between the Florida Everglades and Biscayne Bay. The Port of Miami is the largest cruise ship port in the world.

Miami is the most populous city in the state of Florida. It had a population of 419,777 inside city limits and an estimated 5.5 million people in the Miami metro area in 2013 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Miami's elevation does not rise above 40 feet, and the city has an average elevation of around 5 feet above sea level. Miami has hot and humid summers and short, mild winters due to the city's topical monsoon climate.
