What is a micromolar?

A micromolar is a unit of measurement used in chemistry that is equal to one 1 millionth of a mole. Moles and micromolars are used to measure the amount of elementary particles such as atoms, molecules or electrons that are present in a given substance.

There are over 6 trillion atoms in a micromolar, which makes it impractical to measure them in terms of individual atoms. However, single micromolar-sized samples are often also quite small in terms of mass and size, so it is also difficult to measure them in terms of grams. Micromolars allow for a more simple expression of molecular density when studying chemical composition and reactions.
