What is a midnight blue Agapanthus?

Midnight blue Agapanthus refers to the flower commonly known as African lily or lily of the Nile. It originates from South Africa and is a cultivar of Agapanthus. The botanical name is Agapanthus orientalis, and the family is Amaryllidaceae.

The flower is not a lily. It grows between 2 feet to 4 feet tall and spreads 1 to 2 feet wide. Clusters of 4- to 6-inch blue flowers appear 20 to 24 inches above its leaves. It grows well in partially shaded and moist soil environments. The name stems from the Greek words agape, meaning love, and anthos, meaning flower.
