Does Minecraft have free capes?

As of 2015, the basic version of Minecraft does not include capes as a wearable item for the player avatar within the game. Capes are only available on certain Minecraft servers that include mods that add the cape functionality to the base game.

Some of the cape mods available for Minecraft include MineCapes, which is a modification to the Minecraft program client that adjusts it to find and display capes in the game. The mod also includes a cape directory that users can browse through and upload capes of their own creation. A paid application called Cape Creator for Minecraft is also available on the Apple iTunes store that allows users to customize their own Minecraft capes.
