A mini-split or ductless heat pump is one that uses single-room blowers instead of a central air handler and ventilation ducts to transmit air through the home. Each room's blower is connected directly to the outdoor compressor via the refrigerant lines, and no ducts are needed.

Mini-split or ductless heat pumps offer a few advantages over traditional models. The lack of ventilation ducting eliminates the possibility that heat can be lost as air migrates through the home. In addition, the arrangement of air handlers in each room allows users to selectively heat or cool only rooms that are occupied, saving money on utility bills.
