What is the money in Vietnam?

The currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong. It has the currency code "VND" and is worth approximately 0.00005 US dollars. The word comes from the Vietnamese word for money, which is "dong tien."

The Vietnamese dong was introduced in 1978 as the official currency of the newly unified country of Vietnam. Before 1978, both states used the French Indochinese piastre, then introduced new currencies in the respective areas: the North Vietnamese dong in North Vietnam and the South Vietnamese dong in South Vietnam. When the two states rejoined, the currency of Vietnam was equal to one North Vietnamese dong and 0.8 of one South Vietnamese dong.
