Is monocalcium phosphate dangerous?
By Forinfos - 21/05/2026 - 0 comments
Monocalcium phosphate is a naturally occurring mineral that is not dangerous, but "it is not a perfect substitute for the minerals consumed from vegetable sources," according to the Health Wyze Report. This compound is an ingredient in baking powder.
Monocalcium phosphate is an inorganic phosphate. Although it is not dangerous for human consumption, the amount taken in by a person should not be more than 70 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. When mixed with sodium bicarbonate, this compound is used as a leavening agent in baking products. One advantage with using monocalcium phosphate as an ingredient in food products is that the right amount does not change the product's pH.
