Where does the Mormon church keep its genealogy database?

The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints stores its genealogy database in the Granite Mountain Records Vault near Salt Lake City, Utah. The vault houses the most extensive selection of genealogical information in the world. It contains 32 times more information than the Library of Congress.

More than 3.5 billion records on microfilm, microfiche and digital media are stored there. As of 2015, the church is in the middle of a years-long project of digitizing information for dissemination through the FamilySearch.org website. The information is also made available through over 100 church libraries worldwide. The church began collecting the information in the 1920s on handwritten index cards.
