What does moss eat?

Moss is an autotroph, which means it makes its own food using sunlight, water and carbon dioxide. Moss is considered a producer, but few animals actually eat it.
Mosses have been on the Earth for millions of years. Mosses lack the parts many people think of when they think of plants. They don't have stems, leaves or roots like other plants. They are only found in moist areas and grow horizontally, not vertically. There are around 14,500 species of moss in the world.
The only animals that eat moss are some insects, reindeer, black deer and caribou. Occasionally frogs will snack on moss, as will worms and caterpillars.
