Does Mr. Clean have a first name?

People might think they know Mr. Clean pretty well. He is a man who cleans up nicely, and has been doing so since 1958. But not many people know Mr. Clean well enough to address him by his first name: Veritably, Mr. Veritably Clean.

The first Mr. Clean household cleaner arrived on supermarket shelves in 1958 when Linwood Burton sold his cleaning product creation to Procter & Gamble. In 1962, a popular women’s magazine featured a “Give Mr. Clean a First Name” contest to give this squeaky-clean mascot a proper name. Of the submissions, Veritably was chosen as the best of the bunch.
