According to Drugs.com, the maximum daily dose of acetaminophen for an adult is 4 grams, and each dose should be no more than 1 gram at a time. If drinking alcohol, the maximum daily dose should be reduced to 2 grams.
Drugs.com further mentions that acetaminophen overdose may be harmful and may cause liver damage. Patients who suffer from liver disease or alcoholism should ask their doctors before taking acetaminophen. This medicine is typically used to treat headaches, muscle pain, backaches, tooth pain, arthritis and the symptoms of fever and the common cold. As of 2014, its mechanism of action is unknown.
