How much does a baby elephant weigh?

A baby elephant weighs approximately 200 pounds at birth and stands around three feet tall. Baby elephants grow significantly; adult elephants reach weights between 5,000 and 14,000 pounds, and they stand up to 13 feet tall.

Pregnant female elephants carry their young for nearly two years before giving birth to either a single calf or, occasionally, twins. Each calf relies on its mother's milk for up to two years. Upon maturity, male elephants begin to roam on their own, while females typically remain in their family's herd for their entire lives. In the wild, elephants have a lifespan of up to 70 years.
