How much do car designers make?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics categorizes car designers under the broader category of industrial designers and states a median income of $59,610 a year. However, this amount can vary greatly, depending on experience, location and the hiring company.

Top designers in the field can make upwards of $100,000 a year, and those at the executive level can earn over $500,000. However, these high salaries go to only a minority in the field. Because of the increased use of automation in the industrial engineering field, the BLS is expecting the demand for the job to increase through the coming years by as much as 11 percent.
