The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an average annual salary of $54,200 for interior designers as of May 2013. The median income was $48,500. Ten percent of designers earned $26,490 or less, while the best-paid 10 percent earned $89,060 or more.
Interior designers who worked for architectural and engineering firms averaged $59,480 per year as of May 2013. Those working for furniture and home furnishing wholesalers earned $57,190. Designers in specialized firms made $54,940. Of all the states and territories, the District of Columbia was home to the highest-paid interior designers on average, with average pay of $78,390. Massachusetts was next at $68,400.
