As of 2012, cataract surgery generally costs $3,429 per eye in the United States, according to Restoration Eye Care. An advanced technology lens, which corrects either astigmatism or presbyopia, costs another $449 or $895 per eye respectively. For laser cataract surgery, another $872 per eye is added to the cost.
The cost for the surgery differs in different areas of the country. The expenditure is reduced if postoperative medications and other services are covered by private insurance or Medicare.
An intraocular lens, also known as IOL, is more costly than the standard lens that is used in cataract surgery. Toric IOLs correct astigmatism, and refractive IOLs correct presbyopia.
