Dogs can have 1/4 cup of coconut oil per 10 lbs of body weight up to twice a day, according to Dr. Karen Becker for Dogs Naturally magazine. Coconut oil benefits the dog's coat as well as the digestive and immune systems.
Coconut oil contains Medium Chain Triglycerides; called MCTs for short. MCTs offer antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral benefits which are effective in treating skin conditions such as eczema, allergies and fungal infections, explains Dogs Naturally magazine. The MCTS in coconut oil also contribute to a soft, shiny coat, and can aid in wound healing when applied topically. Additional benefits of coconut oil include metabolism support, insulin regulation, improved digestion and arthritis relief.
