The average cost of electricity per kilowatthour across all sectors of the United States' economy was 10.01 cents in April 2014, reports the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Residential costs were 12.31 cents per kilowatthour in April 2014, while commercial costs were 10.40 cents.

The highest energy prices in the United States were in Alaska and Hawaii. In the contiguous United States, New England had the highest prices per kilowatthour of residential service at 18.29 cents in April 2014, up from 15.82 cents in April 2013. Oregon, California and Washington together had the lowest electricity prices for residential service at 9.80 cents per kilowatthour.
