While civil engineers are the most common type of engineer, there are a variety of other engineering disciplines. Industrial engineers make a median salary of $78,860 per year. At $130,280 per year, petroleum engineers are the highest paid in the field of engineering. Aerospace, computer hardware and nuclear engineers all make a median salary around $104,000 per year. Environmental and industrial engineers make about $79,000 per year.
