Elite professional volleyball players can earn hundreds of thousands of dollars, even millions, playing in professional leagues outside North America. Upper-echelon beach volleyball players can also earn good livings, too.

Entry-level players in indoor professional leagues may earn several thousand dollars per season. As the player's skills and value grow they may earn hundreds of thousands of dollars and the very top players can earn over $1 million. In beach volleyball, women often earn more than men. The very top female players have historically earned more than $2 million per year. Top beach volleyball players of both sexes can expect to earn more than $300,000 in prize winnings.
