According to NHS Employers and the NHS, the annual salary for a nurse in the UK depends upon the specific nursing position, skills required, experience and job location. In 2014, the starting salary for a fully qualified nurse began at 21,478 pounds.
The NHS indicates that nurses who work in and around London receive cost-of-living bonuses. These are highest in the inner city and somewhat less in the outer areas.
Nursing positions that require additional responsibilities pay more, NHS explains. For example, nursing team leaders and specialists start at almost 26,000 pounds per year. Nursing team managers begin at nearly 31,000 pounds, while consultants earn starting salaries of more than 39,000 pounds.
