The bottom 10 percent of teachers on the pay scale made an average of $37,230 per year, while the top 10 percent of teachers on the pay scale made an average of $86,720 per year. The state with the lowest teacher salary in 2013 was South Dakota, with an average teacher salary of $39,580. The state with the highest teacher salary was Connecticut, with an average teacher salary of $69,766.
