How much water should a puppy drink?

A puppy should drink ½ to 1 ounce of water for each pound he weighs. For example, a 15 pound puppy needs between 7.5 and 15 ounces of water a day. The more active a puppy is, the more water he needs.

Dogs need water to aid in digestion, remove toxins, and regulate body temperature and blood pressure. Water also plays an important role in a dog’s ability to pick up scent, as a moist nose is necessary for a dog to smell optimally.

Puppies need small amounts of water every few hours. To check to see if a puppy is not getting enough water, pinch the skin on a dog’s neck and stretch it a bit. It should fall back into place quickly. If the skin stays stuck together, it is a sign of dehydration.
