Are mulberries edible?

Both the ripe berries and young leaves of the mulberry plant are edible. The berries have a blueberry-like flavor when cooked and are also used to make wines and cordials. Unripe berries and mature leaves have a mildly hallucinogenic and intoxicating effect on humans.
Ripe mulberries are usually black or dark purple and have high levels of antioxidents, vitamins C and K, iron, fiber and B vitamins. Both berries and stem bark contain reseveratrol. Mulberry leaves may help control sugar cravings and assist in blood sugar regulation. The silk industry depends greatly on white mulberry leaves, the sole food source of the silkworm.
