What is a mythological hero?

A mythological hero is one who transcends the mediocre with exceptional acts. Mythological and legendary characters are considered the most perfect examples of heroes. Furthermore, mythological heroes are thought to be demigods and possess more power than mere mortals.

The most famous mythological heroes are found in Greek mythology. Hercules, the son of Zeus and Alcmene, had to perform 12 seemingly impossible labors to atone for accidentally killing his wife and children. Another example of a mythological hero is Perseus, who slayed Medusa by beheading her. He used a mirror so that he did not turn to stone when looking directly at her.
