What are myYearbook and MeetMe?

MeetMe, which was formerly known as myYearbook, is a social networking website. Although other social networking platforms, such as Facebook, facilitate connections between users who are already acquainted with each other, MeetMe encourages its users to make new friends in order to expand social connections.

MeetMe was founded in 2005 by siblings Catherine and Geoff Cook. MeetMe can be accessed through computers, tablets and smartphones. Although MeetMe was originally created to attract high school students, most members were concentrated in North America, and the company wanted to establish a global presence. This led the Pennsylvania-based company to merge with Quepasa, a Latin American social networking platform.
