Why do my nails peel in layers?

By Forinfos - 02/07/2025 - 0 comments

Nails can begin to peel in layers for a variety of reasons, including heavy work, infection, fungus, certain medications and exposure to chemicals. They may also begin to peel if a vitamin, mineral or protein deficiency is present. Additionally, nails tend to get brittle and peel with seasonal changes.

Since nails are made up of several layers of a specialized protein called keratin, it's not uncommon for them to peel. This is especially true if they are weakened or damaged due to the application of acrylic nails or overuse of nail solutions, such as formaldehyde. Fortunately, most people can prevent peeling by protecting their nails with polish and nail-strengthening treatments.
