To name ionic compounds, first find the cation and the anion. Next, name the ionic compound by writing the name of the cation followed by the name of the anion.
Ionic compounds are chemical compounds in which the ionic species are held together by ionic bonds. Positively charged ions are known as cations, while negatively charged ions are known as anions. There are many simple ionic species such as the sodium ion, Na+, and the chloride ion, Cl-. However, there are many ionic species as well. Examples of ionic species include the carbonate ion, CO3^2-, and the sulfate ion SO4^2-.
