The name of Jewish bread is challah. It is made with eggs and eaten on holidays and the Sabbath. Challah has various traditions associated with it, and the three Sabbath meals and two holiday meals both begin with two loaves of the challah.
Challah represents the blessing that was sent to the Israelites upon their Exodus from Egypt. The bread is also sprinkled with sesame or poppy seeds, representing the manna that was sent from heaven. In addition, it is covered with a white napkin, which symbolizes the dew that collected on the manna. Challah can be made in different shapes, but the most common is the braided shape.
