"Amazing Grace," "Near the Cross" and "Farther Along" are three well-known gospel hymns. Sung by congregations, choirs and professional artists, these hymns have been loved for generations.
"Amazing Grace," written by English clergyman John Newton, was published in 1779. Originally written to reinforce a sermon, it was used throughout the Second Great Awakening. It did not receive its now-familiar tune until 1835.
"Near the Cross" was written by Frances Crosby and published in 1869. The lyrics are based on Galatians 6:14, John 19:25 and Revelation 22:1-2.
Written in 1911 by Reverend W.A. Fletcher, "Farther Along" was copyrighted in 1937 and was published by the Stamps-Baxter Music Company.
