Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is a well-known animal lover; she has owned dogs named Dookie, Jane, Crackers, Carol, Susan, Willow, Holly, Candy and Vulcan. The queen is most closely associated with a specific dog breed, the corgi, to which she was first introduced as a child by her father, King George VI.
Young Princess Elizabeth, and her sister, Princess Margaret, loved their first corgi, Dookie, and both of them remained fond of the breed. Princess Margaret also loved dachshunds, which were sometimes bred with the royal corgis to create a hybrid breed known as the dorgi. As of 2015, Queen Elizabeth owns both dorgis and corgis.
