Is NASCAR a real sport?

NASCAR is a sport that involves drivers using a high level of fitness, and the participants are also competing with other opponents. Drivers must use athletic features, such as hand-eye coordination and reaction movements, in order to gain an advantage. Endurance is also tested while driving many laps in extreme conditions.
NASCAR driver Tony Stewart explains on AutoWeek.com his take on the sport of racing. While racing isn't the same as football, basketball or baseball, "there is a very huge physical aspect to it that people don't see." Because NASCAR does not have the typical aspects that a majority of other sports share, the question of it being a sport is still highly debated.
