What is the national sport of India?

There are no known national sports or games in India. While there is nothing official, it is well known that field hockey has actually been a popular sport in India for more than four decades. Field hockey in India is not as popular as it used to be, which many believe to be the result of poor management of the teams, while sports like cricket, kabaddi and tennis have become more popular in recent years.

Even though India has won eight Olympic gold medals in field hockey, of which six were consecutive, it is still not considered to be the national sport of India.
