What is the national dish of Spain?

While many non-Spaniards consider paella to be the national dish of Spain, tortilla espanola, or Spanish omelet, is more widely consumed throughout the Iberian peninsula. Unlike the corn-based tortilla of Mexico, the Spanish tortilla is made from potatoes, eggs and onions.

Spain comprises 17 regions, and each boasts its own cuisine. Paella, the famous rice and seafood dish, is proudly claimed by Valencia. Tortilla espanola, however, is found all over Spain. The fluffy, round omelet is simple to prepare. Best of all, it can be eaten all day long. Tourists will often find a plate of tortilla espanola atop the counter of a tapas bar.
