The United States Democratic Party is one of two major political parties in the United States. Founded in 1848, the Democratic party is the oldest continuing party in the country.
As of 2015, there have been 15 Democratic presidents, starting with Andrew Jackson. The party was originally formed as the Democratic-Republican Party, in direct opposition to the Federalist party.
Though not official, the Democratic Party's logo is usually a donkey. This symbol was originally meant to be derogatory towards Andrew Jackson, as they made profanity out of his name. However, the Democrats decided to use it as well, liking the implications to the common man.
